About the Report
The report presents detailed (384 pages) evaluation results of 5 S3D films, which were converted to S3D format in post-production.

Examined problems: |

|
The report comprises five main parts:
- Thorough description of visual-discomfort potential causes that are mostly specific to 2D-3D conversion.
- Detailed analysis of five films. Each film description consists of
two parts:
- Per-frame analysis with charts showing metric values for each frame;
- Visualizations demonstrating artifacts in frames that earned a poor rating according to our metrics.
- Overall film comparison. Here go charts depicting the average metric values and distribution of these values in each film. Some charts showing overall comparison results are presented in the Overall evaluation results section on this page.
- Comparison of 2D and S3D versions of analysed films.
- Some results of our new approach to depth-map quality evaluation based on finding inconsistencies between stereo disparity and motion parallax.
Professional stereographers contributed to the analysis with valuable comments and feedbacks.
Contributed Stereographers
(in alphabetical order; for main part of the report)
- Ido Banai, Stereographer, Stereo Production Consultant, Filmmaker, Storyteller
- Deepak Dalal, Associate Stereoscopic Supervisor at Prime Focus World
- Ed W. Marsh, Filmmaker
- Fabien Remblier, S3D and 4K Director, Stereographer, Producer
- Wesley Sewell, Stereographic Supervisor
Overall evaluation results
In this section we present selected overall comparison charts. We use two main types of charts:
- Dot chart which depicts average score of each film according to the metric
- Integral histogram which shows distribution of metric values throughout the film
Please, read more about the charts and particular films in the report.
